Android ransomware posing as FBI warning
Android users have been hit with a ransomware program that demands $500 to restore access. The program has been found contained within a spam email as an Adobe Flash Player update - 15,000 such emails were discovered at last count by Romanian security firm Bitdefender.
On further discovery it was found that users who attempt to unlock their devices will see the ransom increase from $500 to $1500 - with payment to made by PayPal 'My Cash' transfer or Money Pak.
The malware works by disabling the device's home screen and back buttons. Rebooting the device has no effect but users can find solace in the fact they may be able to remove the offending program via ADB (Android Data Bridge), making use of Android's safe mode feature to do so.
American users have been found to have been the most affected group with regards to this particular issue.
