Another Sally Beauty POS data breach

Sally Beauty Holdings, an international specialty retailer and distributor of professional beauty supplies with revenues exceeding $2.6 billion annually announced that malware was deployed against some of its point-of-sale systems, or cash registers, over a six-week period beginning in early March.

This is the second data breach disclosed by Sally Beauty Holdings Inc. in just over two years. The beauty products retailer notified customers in early May that it was investigating reports of unusual activity on payment cards used at some U.S. stores.

Consumer rights advocates have called for the use of cash registers that accept cards with computer chips to replace the outdated magnetic strips still favored by many US outlets.

American banks appear to finally be awakening to the new reality with JPMorgan Chase promising to replace all of its customers' debit cards with more secure chip-based cards nationwide. It expects to have chips on 70 percent of its debit cards by the end of 2015.
