Bank of England sends confidential data to journalists
The Bank of England has had to turn off an auto-complete in its email platform after the head of its press department sent confidential information to a journalist.
The email contained details of upcoming projects and a potential UK exit from the UK as well as information about how to fend off questions from journalists.
The removal of the auto-complete feature will entail more work for employees.
A Freedom of Information (FoI) request Egress sent to data privacy watchdog the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the report from December 2014 revealed that 93% of breaches in April - June 2014 were down to human error.
Only 7% were as a result of technical problems. A reminder of the need to ensure that there are checks and balances within organizations.
