Kenswitch has partnered with Trendmark to roll out chip-and-pin bank cards and phase out the fraud-prone magnet strip cards. The cards will be usable at all 1300 Kenswitch ATMs nationwide.
Trendmak, a business and IT retail banking firm will provide the new cards and put in place the ecosystem necessary to ensure that Kenyan banks can move to the new, more secure platform, in a cost efficient manner.
Steps have already been taken to ensure that point of sale and ATM units are able to read the new cards. The entire chip-and-pin ecosystem has been put together by local Kenyan firms.
Transnational bank, an institution already making use of the newer cards, has called for greater collaboration between local banks and IT firms.
