Hacking Team - Hacked
The notorious spy tech company, "Hacking Team", has ironically been hacked. Hacking Team is an Italian outfit known for providing surveillance software and expertise to national governments and law enforcement. A number of the Hacking Team's clients are known to be governments that make use of surveillance techniques to stifle dissent, press freedoms and opposition to poor governance - countries such as Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
Their twitter account (@hackingteam) is in a state of disarray, with much of their confidential information currently being shared by the hackers.
The hackers have released Hacking Team correspondence, files and source code into the wild in the form of a torrent file, 387 GB worth of data. The data reveals that the company has a string of national governments as clients globally, whilst on the African continent it has done business with governments in Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan, Nigeria and Morocco. A comprehensive client list was dumped on pastebin as well as a choice collection of files on github to compliment the information available in the torrent dump.
As of 0930 GMT no statement has been made by Hacking Team.
