President Muhammadu Buhari recently appointed Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu as the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
The recently named head of the NNPC has since released a statement alerting the public to the problem of online fraudsters misusing his name to create social media accounts.
Emmanuel Kachikwu has advised users to disregard any Facebook communications as he does not operate a Facebook account. An NNPC spokesperson has acknowledged that Facebook has previously been utilized by scammers as a tool to defraud people within the oil and gas sector.
