ThreatMetrix,
a security technology company based in San Jose, California, claims
that the UK is the most attacked nation on the planet as pertaining
to online activity.
The UK has some the highest internet penetration rates in the world with UK
users more likely than most to make online purchases, use
online banking services, as a result they have been shown to be the
biggest losers when it comes to online fraud as a result of their
increased exposure to online fraudsters.
The ThreatMetrix report claims that attacks
aimed at the UK are primarily originating from Germany, Nigeria, the
USA and Mexico.
It
should be clear by now to those societies looking to increase their
internet penetration levels (as well as to the businesses looking to
take advantage of the increased uptake) that greater online exposure
leads to greater risk of online fraud. Without educational campaigns
advising users on the safest means of using the new technology there
is an increased risk that in their ignorance users will fall prey to
the cyber criminals.
