Nigerian cyber-crime is a $9.3 billion industry according to the Cyber Security Association of Nigeria (CSEAN). Speaking in Abuja, the President of the association, Mr Remi Afon, discussed the rapid progression of the cyber crime industry from basic phishing emails to exploitative malware. Mr Afon made his claim based upon research done by Ultrascan, a firm specializing in online investigation.
Mr Afon was eager to laud the Federal Government for steps taken to combat the growing cyber theft epidemic and praised the introduction of the Cybercrime Bill by the previous administration. The association is optimistic that the legislation will enable law enforcement to deal with the growing problem effectively.
