Yahoo's quest to kill the password

Yahoo has announced its latest plan for email security, in doing so they plan on banishing user-created alphanumeric passwords.

The California company has made strides in improving its user security profile whilst also simplifying the logging in process by introducing 'on demand passwords' - a process that provides the user with a unique password for each login.

The new Yahoo Account Key system makes use of mobile technology to identify the user. It is the two factor authentication system that many industry insiders have been calling for, something already optional for Google services. Users are asked whether or not they wish to login using the account key, a push notification is sent to the registered smartphone from which the user can then confirm that a genuine login has been attempted.
