Hospital drug pumps vulnerable to hackers
Security researcher Billy Rios identified weaknesses in the Illinois-based firm Hospira’s standard PCA LifeCare pumps, its Symbiq range of pumps (discontinued in 2013) and its Plum A+ pumps.
These vulnerabilities may allow a hacker to remotely administer a fatal dose of the medication to a patient.
There are over 400,000 Hospira pumps in use all over the world.
Rios revealed that anyone, anywhere could remotely alter the dosage released by the pumps.
